On that night, children leave a shoe out by the fireplace or sometimes a windowsill and sing Sinterklaas songs. They hope that Sinterklaas will come during the night with some presents. They also believe that if they leave some hay and carrots in their shoes for Sinterklaas's horse, they will be left some sweets or small presents. Some of those treats are foil-wrapped chocolates and delicious chocolate letters, usually the first letter of the child's first name (these can be purchased locally here in Draper at a certain Pirate shop!)
You can create your own version of wooden shoes by following the link below, using just paper and some tape. Be sure to place your shoes out on Saturday night for Sinterklaas!
